I am Kiran Poonacha, I was born in Coorg, India on 7th October 1974. Coming from a family of Nature lovers, being born and brought up in Coorg (a very beautiful place nestled in the Western Ghats of India, filled with rare and beautiful species of birds ) gave me an opportunity and inspired me to start birding at a young age. But after my education due to my career path, observing birds in the lap of nature became a forgone thought. For 15 years I missed being with these winged wonders in their habitat.

I patiently waited for the time when I could get back into my passion for Birds. In 2006 my wife (also my birding partner) gifted me a camera and as a matter of coincidence I met a couple of people who shared similar interests, through a social networking website. These instances gave me a second chance to pursue my passion to picture birds in a frame. Soon I became a member of the website called India Nature Watch, which houses brilliant photographers from across the country who share their work in this website. This exposure played an imperative role in helping me improve my photographic skills.

Got my first DSLR camera in the year 2007, my dear friend and boss Mr. Kumar Babu gifted me a zoom lens and I started concentrating on my passion for bird photography. As I live in Bangalore, I had great opportunity to photograph the majestic Raptors. Going after raptors fascinated me and helped me learn more about them, soon I was in love the elegant Raptor’. I love their temperament, their style, their stand on power etc. etc. (I can go on and on). My love affair with raptors started about a year back, inspiring me to make a collection of portraits of various species of Raptors.

After I complete my collection I also intend to launch a coffee table book on raptors, I want everybody to share my moments with these powerful yet graceful birds. I’m also pursuing a collection of images of birds found in Coorg, this is a tribute to what I have been exposed to during my early years, while growing up in Coorg. I sincerely hope that my Images will help influence people to conserve birds by restoring their habitat.

Help the beautiful birds survive. By helping them we are only helping ourselves. They are a very important link in our life chain.
